Always a teacher

Roger has led science departments in Victoria and NSW regional and city schools, including The King's School and the Shore School. With decades of experience in staff rooms and classrooms, Roger merges this with the insights gained from his PhD in Educational Neuroscience (UNSW). Passionate about deep learning, developing student autonomy, competence, and connectedness, he was instrumental in establishing a leading school-industry-tertiary learning incubator (The Future Project). With a year as a teaching scientist, he continued to work on enabling professional-student collaborations such as the Zoo of Poo from the other side of the school fence. Digging deep into AI's impact on learning, he brings a pragmatic and realistic approach to exploring desirable synergies of generative AI and learning. A regular contributor to education, and part-time researcher at UNSW, the highlights of his week are teaching the young people in his classroom and supporting other educators.
